Description

The Edelrid Giga Jul is the most versatile climbing belay device on the market. It gives you all the benefits of guide mode tubular devices and assisted braking devices in one. This means that you have one belay device for all climbing and mountain activities from sport climbing to trad and multi pitch climbing to alpine and mountaineering. 

Unlike other assisted braking belay devices on the market, the Edelrid Giga Jul can operate with double ropes. Which not only means you can belay with double ropes like you would for trad or alpine, but perhaps more importantly you can abseil and descend on double ropes which is a must for any multi-pitching. 

All of the versatility in the Edelrid Giga Jul is thanks to the genius sliding mechanism. Use it in it's standard position and it is a normal tubular belay device. This is great for general belaying, bringing up seconders in guide mode, or abseiling etc. However slide it into the assisted brake mode and you have a fully assisted braking belay device but also one you can use with double or twin ropes if you want. This is not only great for sport climbing but also belaying with cold icy ropes in an alpine setting, or just for extra security on exposed multi-pitches.
